I think everyone can agree that they (Space Marines) are seen as the go-to ‘starter’ army/team. A lot of new players such as myself are drawn in by Space Marines. I think people supporting the compendium are skipping over just to how sucky the Space Marine hits are. (Let us not forget the fact that if you were playing with elites or commander models, you can kiss those bad boys goodbye for this new edition, until games workshop decides to have you schill out more money to them for their new expansion.)

Imagine being one of the guys that had a team with a intercessor sergeant and a intercessor gunner and a reaver sergeant and a scout sniper (which cannot be played now unless you take a whole squad of the guys) and to be honest, I don't blame them, because a full squad of intercessors kind of sounds like a bad matchup compared to some of the other forces you will go up against in the new edition. Since most chaos forces can still take a heretic marine, and cultists, or pox walkers, or they're splash of evil minion. Specifically I think space marines took the biggest hit on this one.
The other thing that I think too, is that people aren't necessarily happy at the fact that if you were playing a kill team of mixed models back in the last edition, you're not going to be able to really do that here. So you have to drop 50 bucks on the core rules 50 bucks on the compendium for a total of 100 bucks without any of the measuring peripherals whereas you were able to get the core rule book back in 2018 for $40 that had the rules and data sheets for just about every faction. I think the biggest thing people are upset about with the compendium is that it's a $50 book that's going to be worthless once they start releasing all the extra specialized sets like Octarius. What a relief.ĭon’t know about everyone else, but I far prefer having fluffy builds be the norm and baseline rather than meta chasing. Kill Team seems like it allows players to be competitive with actually fluffy lists. GW will ruin Kill Team if they bring 40k codex bullshit into the game. I for one want GW to stay as far away from the meta, new codex new broken army bullshit as possible. Sure, a few, like regular IG, aren’t as a good, but this is a far better situation then the state of 40k. I don’t really think that is valid, there are some powerful lists and tactics for several factions dkok and kommandos do not have that much more than compendium factions. It seems like most of the flame is coming from disappointment that each faction doesn’t have the same level of strategic or tactical ploys as dkok or kommandos. Simple list building that still allows for strategic decisions about what model or weapon to take based on the mission and opposition. It’s a single book with all the army rules that are easy to read and understand.
I really like how this version of Kill Team is shaping up and don’t get all the heat this compendium is taking.
